1954 Honeymoon Find
For the first 10 years of our marriage, we used a dining table made my husband made as a college project, along with wooden folding chairs, borrowed from his sister.
When we decided to actually buy dining room furniture, I went to the classified ads and found an extendable table, six chairs and china cabinet for sale. The owners had bought the set in 1954, while honeymooning on an island. The furniture was shipped, so they later picked it up from Boston Harbor.
They said a New England cabinet maker had built the buffet a few years later to "match" the table and chairs. I still don't know who made it.
It's still our dining room furniture, 30 years later.
Table and chairs: designed by Niels Otto Møller and made by JL Møller Møbelfabrik, Denmark. 1954.
China cabinet: cabinet maker unknown.
Oh, and the picture? It's from our East Grand Rapids, MI home where we lived until 2012. A beautiful 1954 mid-century home. It was hard to leave.
